Jan Van Landegherm Composer & Performer

Jan Van Landeghem studied organ, harpsichord, piano accompagniment, choir and orchestra conducting, music theory and composition at Brussels and Maastricht Conservatory’s. He mastered with great distinction for organ  and composition.  His professors for organ were Kamiel D’Hooghe, Harald Vogel, Piet Kee and Xavier Darasse. For composition he worked with Peter Cabus, André Laporte, Karel Goeyvaerts and Iannis Xenakis.

Currently he is professor Composition at the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Brussels and director of the Academy of Music of Bornem (Antwerp).
He has been chosen as member of the board of Sabam (Autors Rights) in Brussels.
Together with Jenny Spanoghe he is the founder of the “Mirecourt Summercourse”

He won more than 15 composition prizes in Europe and abroad among which:

• Sabam prize for the entire work (1988)
• Camille Huysmans Prize for Symphonic work (1993)
• Wendungen Prize Festival of Flanders for Symphonic work (1994

• Selection Banff Canada Rocky Mountains (1995) “Three Bagatellen For Flute Quintet”
• GRAND PRIX QUEBEC-FLANDERS (Montréal Canada) for his first stringquartet (1995)
• DMP prize for Piano music for children (1996)
• Gezelle Prize Roeselare for “Gezelle Triptiek” for soprano, clarinet and piano (1999)
• Selected by the Netherlands Chamberchoir as best Flemish Composer (1999)
• Ramsgate Composer of the year 2000 for the “Marcatissimo” piano quartet (2000)
• First Publics Prize for  the organ work “Thamasoo” Kortrijk 2000
• “Prize of the Brothers Darche” Brussels Royal Conservatory 2000 for international welknown composer
• BAP prize Sabam for “Modal Suite” for band
• Sabam prize for the entire work (1988)

He lectured at the Universities and Conservatories of Prague, Brno, Hiroshima, Georgia State USA, Gent, Montréal, Cracovia, Bologna etc.

Van Landeghem gave recitals in most European Contries, Asia and the USA. He made recordings for VRT radio and the Dutch radio. Selected as “Fulbright Scholar” he thought at Georgia State University and conducted major works of Bach, and gave organ recitals with Bach and Flemish  Music.
He conducted in Europe the famous boy’s choir “In Dulci Jubilo”, the chamber choir “Concinentes” and the string orchestra “Landini”.
Together with his wife, the famous violinist Jenny Spanoghe he plays organ, harpsichord and piano.

As composer he wrote more than 150 works and arrangements. He got commissions from several Symphonic Orchestras, Professional Choirs, Ensembles, Stringquartets etc. His works have been recorded at many CD’s.
